The 2026 INAUGURAL MEMPHIS CUP
A ROCK & ROLL WEEKEND OF KENDO.In collaboration with the Memphis Kendo Association, Hokubei Budogu warmly invites you to the 2026 Inaugural Memphis Kendo Cup on June 20th, 2026 in Memphis, TN
Come celebrate, connect, and unite through Kendo with practitioners from across the community. Whether you’re competing or supporting, we look forward to sharing this memorable day with you!
Memphis is more than just a great city—it’s the perfect meeting point for the Kendo community.
With its central location, Memphis brings together dojos from across the region, making it an easy and accessible destination for practitioners traveling from Nashville, Atlanta, Little Rock, St. Louis, New Orleans, and beyond. Instead of long, cross-country travel, many can reach Memphis within a day’s drive—making it easier for more kenshi to participate, connect, and compete.
But it’s not just about convenience. Memphis has a unique energy—rich in culture, history, and hospitality—that creates the perfect backdrop for a Kendo tournament. It’s a place where different dojos can come together, strengthen bonds, and grow the community in a meaningful way.
A tournament in Memphis isn’t just an event—it’s a gathering point. A place where the Kendo community meets, shares, and moves forward together.
Letter of Invitation
It is with great honor and heartfelt anticipation that we announce the collaboration between the Memphis Kendo Association and Hokubei Budogu in presenting the Inaugural Memphis Kendo Cup, to be held on June 20, 2026.
This special event marks not only the beginning of a new tradition, but also a meaningful milestone—the 40th anniversary of kendo in Memphis. For me personally, it is a deeply significant occasion, reflecting on my own humble beginnings as a young man first picking up a shinai.
Over the years, having crossed swords with countless kenshi from around the world, I have come to understand more clearly the profound impact that the art of kendo can have on individuals of all ages. Its values, discipline, and spirit continue to resonate now more than ever. In many ways, the world needs kendo—and we, as practitioners, are fortunate to walk this path together.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Yong Back and Hokubei Budogu for their vision, dedication, and support in making this event possible—not only for this year, but for many years to come.
We warmly invite you to join us in Memphis for this memorable occasion as we celebrate kendo, community, and shared spirit.
With deepest respect,
Patrick Register
